Minutes for Executive Meeting
The national executive meeting began at 7.33 p.m ET with opening prayer by Tata Emmanuel Ikoe, followed by opening remarks from the National President Iya Dr. Clementine Nanje. She proceeded by laying out the guidelines for the meeting. Thereafter, the Secretary General read out the minutes for the previous meeting which was adopted. The National President continued by saying that our OCA-USA forum has become dormant, because issues that supposed to be discussed are not being discussed because people don’t go to the website to read the minutes of our meetings. On that note, the PRO, Tata Victor Nanje weighed in by saying that it is better if the minutes are sent directly to our forum since most people don’t go to the website to read the minutes but cautioned that people should not forward the minutes to other forums.
On financial matters, the National Treasurer Iya Naomi Ebile mentioned that there are a lot of issues with our finances, citing the case of Njambae which was manage by a private entity as well as the uniform which was not managed by the Financial department rather by the Cultural department. She continued by saying that many people spent during the convention from their private pockets without the approval from the National.
On her part, the Financial Secretary Iya Caroline Pufong weighed in by saying that any money spent at the convention without the approval from the Financial department will not be reimbursed. The National President Iya Dr. Clementine Ebenye weighed in by saying that extra expenses during the convention were not anticipated, and that the monies spent should be reimbursed just for this time while we make amends. The PRO Tata Victor Nanje also weighed in to say that he take responsibility for the extra expenses because of his absence during the 2019 convention, and that the extra expenses mentioned by Tata Evaristus Nanje who was the Georgia chapter president were not included in the budget.
It was concluded that the extra expenses should be reimbursed.
On other matters, the PRO, Tata Victor Nanje mentioned that he was working in collaboration with an NGO which involves in projects that can benefit our youths such as tomato farming, tailoring in places such as Kwakwa , Nake and Bole.
On his part, the Technical Adviser, Tata Adolphus Ati mentioned that OCA-USA should vote on a package for Tata Dan Frieden for the work he has been doing as we witnessed in the 2019 convention in Atlanta.
On 2020 convention preparation, the Vice President Tata Mosongo Nanje said they have made some other hotel arrangements including Marriott hotel which are in close proximity to the convention ground. The PRO Tata Victor Nanje also weighed in by saying that he is also working on the flyers for the 2020 convention . The Vice President also mentioned that they have began the visa application process to bring our guest artist Tata James Betondi, and that the Barbecue will be held at Tata Daniel Mukete’s residence.
On matters arising, the Georgia chapter represented by the Vice President Tata Musongo Nanje said they are encouraging members who attend only the National meetings to start attending local meetings as well. He said thus far they have 15 registered members and they have raised almost $1000 from registration and dues.
