Minutes for Executive Meeting. 03/11/2018
The Executive meeting was chaired by our National President Iya Dr. Clementine Nanje. The meeting began at 7.30 p.m ET with opening prayers by Tata Emmanuel Ikoe. This was followed by opening remarks by the National President as well as a roll call for the executive members present in the meeting. The National President Iya Dr. Clementine Nanje mentioned that Iya Gwendoline Forseh is supposed to give us an update for the uniform, and that she has added Mr./Mrs. Ekoi of Chicago to the executive forum so that they can give us an update on matters regarding the upcoming National Convention to be held in Chicago. She continued by saying that the Humanitarian committee has come up with some suggestion to add at least two more members to the committee should in case some members are absent, they can still have sufficient people to make a decision. She also cited the situation in Dikome, which has been added to the crisis and she said she doesn’t know why the Oroko people have become the target for this Southern Cameroon crisis. She said, with regards to the humanitarian assistance program we as a people need to step up, and see what we can do to help those who are severely affected by this crisis.
With regards to the Boston share of the proceeds from the 2017 National Convention, the National President said the Boston chapter has being worried why the National has not yet sent their cheque as promised. Still on convention matters, the National President mentioned that, the people of Chicago are trying to look for a hall or place where everything can be done without moving people from one place to another.
Thereafter, the Public Relations Officer, Tata Victor Nanje, took the floor to talk about the humanitarian committee. He said the committee was having an issue with respect to the day for the meeting, and that their last meeting was not actually attended by the committee members, and because of that, it was cancelled. So, he suggested to the chairperson of the humanitarian committee Iya Patricia Mofa that they needed at least two more people in the committee, and this request was sent to the National President. He said the donation for $100 for every Oroko person in the United States has not yielded much as expected, and that he thinks the chapters should contribute to the National for this course. Tata Emmanuel Musongo who is the interim Secretary General of the Georgia Chapter as well as the Treasurer, asked if the contribution was supposed to come from chapters or from individuals? And Tata Victor Nanje replied that initially the chapters were supposed to donate at least $1000 to the national and he suggested that, the chapter presidents can still reconsider that option considering how badly we need money to carry out this humanitarian assistance in the affected areas in Oroko land.
The National President also mentioned that she has received some complains that the Bakundu clan which is the most affected in this crisis is not well represented in the humanitarian assistance committee, so she is suggesting that we should add some people from the Bakundu clan to the humanitarian assistance committee to make it more solid. Tata Adolf Ebile and Tata Daniel Esoe were suggested to be added to this committee, in order for us to make it more productive. The National President also mentioned that, Tata Adolphus Ati brought up a complain that people do not read the minutes for our meetings, and that we should make it a duty to read what was said in the meetings.
On his part, the Vice National President and President of the Washington D.C chapter Tata Mosongo Nanje, mentioned that his chapter has also accepted the idea of a national uniform, but that concerning the humanitarian assistance program, some people were reluctant to donate because they are not sure on how we are going to carry out the humanitarian assistance program considering the state of affairs in Oroko land. On that note, the National President mentioned that she will put more information out with respect to how the program will be implemented, and also she stressed the fact that, the reason why there is little information on the implementation phase of the program is because we don’t want to put people’s life at risk who will be responsible for the ground work. The Public Relation’s Officer, also mentioned that the Secretary General should try to make a summary of what we have done or discussed so far in our previous meetings so that we can have a perspective of where we are and where we are going.
On his part, Tata Efilo Ngoe who was introduced into the forum as an adviser to the National President also mentioned that, the Oroko issue affects us all and he was glad for the humanitarian efforts we are making. He continued by suggesting that the Oroko diaspora should write to the government of Cameroon to stop its activities and atrocities committed in Oroko land, he reiterated the fact that we are being targeted because we don’t have people that speak for us as opposed to those in the NorthWest Region.
On financial issues, a cheque of $1,050 will be sent to the Boston chapter as their proceeds from the National convention which took place in Boston.
With regards to our campaign for fundraising for our humanitarian assistance program, Tata Emmanuel Nanje of Georgia mentioned that, our GoFundMe campaign page can also be shared on other social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter to increase awareness. He also mentioned that the list of membership at the OCA-USA website has not being updated, and that the executive should try to get the list updated.
